Another Keno Lorber/3-D Film Archive movie! As usual they did a brilliant job at the restoration and gave us a LOT of extras on this one, including a short one in 3D showing us how off the 3D was. Warning, it will hurt your eyes, but it is interesting to see anyway.

Demi Moore, Cherie Currie, Vivian Blane, and Tom Villard. You might recognize others also. These were all below B actors at that time. Don’t expect any great acting. This movie was done on a really low budget.

Really deep 3D. I went cross-eyed a few times trying to focus on an object. There were things that popped out and other things that hung there, so I really enjoyed the 3D. There was a cool murder scene with a pipe impaled in his chest. They zero in on the pipe so that it is in your face…and then blood drips out. For never having done 3D before, they did a great job.

Sound is actually good for an 80s cheaply made movie. It’s even in surround sound. In the extras, someone points out that the music was actually recorded decently for back then. He felt it was important to bring up the level of these B films by having a good soundtrack.

This movie is set in some sort of post apocalyptic world. People are pretty dumb and stereotypical. Yeah, you have the idiot bad kids who think they are funny. Sadly, this gave the movie a lot of 80s cheese factor. The fight scenes weren’t great, but I’ve seen worse. Of course you have some eye roll moments. I found the ray guns to feel odd within the story. I get that only government employees had them, but they weren’t really used efficiently in the movie.

The parasite itself was probably good at that point in time. It was nice and slimy! I did enjoy the close ups of its mouth/teeth.

Check out the price of gas!

Little bit of female nudity towards the beginning of the movie.

Creepy Factor: 3/5 For it’s time period, I think it deserves this.
Scare Factor: 3/5 I think some would find it scary.
Story: 2/5 They winged it and it shows.
3D: 5/5 I expect nothing less from these guys.

Can you judge the quality of the movie if the 3D is actually great but the movie is terrible? Why, of course you can. Parasite has a lot of disgusting but impressive bladder effects underneath the skin, Lazer blasts and people falling into windows in slow motion, and it is all beautiful in 3d. The movie itself is a disappointing slog. The effect makes a bad movie feel like a more fun time. Check it out, just don’t expect better than MST3K quality filmmaking here.
